You mean the computer is _in_ the computer?!

Lololol when there were rumors it would have USB-C instead of USB 3, I was like, "oh that's shitty." But I figured I'd get over it.When they announced all 7 ports were replaced by 4 USB-C ports, I said "fuck them."I've been using macs exclusively for the past ~8 years. Apple has had superior UX than Microsoft (minus window management, which Microsoft wins at), and the hardware, though "weaker" was tuned very well with the software/os.But.. to be honest... as much of an asshole as Jobs was, he would have been fucking pissed with how Apple is fucking us over so hard. If someone came to him and said "alright alright. Let's take away the headphone jack and make this phone look exactly like last generation," he would have fired them on the spot.

I totally understand. I have classes like chemistry or math where we have to write down formulas and draw chemical structures and thats really hard to emulate on a computer so handwriting does the job. However, for a class like writing I'll most definitely be using a computer because I can type much quicker than I physically write. It all depends on how your workflow works.

I had the same decision to make and went with a surface pro 4. It's my first non apple device in over 10 years and I am absolutely in love with it.Being able to have full functionality apps with a file structure is paramount for grad school. No futzing around figuring out how I can transfer a file from spot a to b in order to edit or mark up.OneNote on a touch device with full functionality is a game changer. Plus being able to have a computer that has an infinite number of position adjustments instead of just a 45 deg angle...Oh and apple "pencil" doesn't have right click or an eraser like the surface pen. When writing notes on ppt in onenote, an eraser is so handy!Apple has seriously lost their innovation edge, at least in the last year or two when compared to MS. Take the new surface AIO as exhibit a.
Vesk第 335 楼 ·
Pencil experience vastly better on iPad Pro and as a tablet I prefer iPad.But you're right, if you need/want x64 programs and a desktop OS with note taking capabilities, Surface Pro is the choice.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.I used to be a huge MBP advocate (not necessarily Apple in general, but the MBP I've always really liked), but they just keep screwing up.Sidebar: I took my new car out for a 4K mile road trip and it has Apple CarPlay (2016 VW Golf - I love this damn car). At first I thought it was really nifty, but the more I use it the more it pisses me off. Maps has sent me to really screwed up locations many times now where nothing even close to what I was a looking for was to be found. When I was driving on 91 in Florida it said there were no gas stations within a hundred miles! I loaded up the Google Maps app and there were 4 within 5 miles of my location. Twice now it has wiped out my favorites, which pisses me off because I do a lot of traveling and have favorites all over the place (also, how the hell do I view a list of favorites on my phone? Is it even possible?)It does annoying shit like when I get out of CarPlay on my car's dash and then go back in it will not go back to what I was previously doing (usually navigation), instead it will always load up Favorites (which has probably been wiped) and it takes another 2 touches to get back to navigation. It might not sound like a huge deal, but it's just so stupidly simple to not do this.*Also, why can't I download maps for offline usage? Navigation chews up a TON of data.I know the man was an asshole of the highest order, but during the Steve Jobs era I don't think this would have even made it out of the alpha stages and he would have absolutely spit hellfire if this were released publicly. Apple are far from perfect (they can't engineer a damn mouse to save their lives) but they are certainly moving further and further away from what they used to be.Ah, good old Sunday rant there. Feels good.

2016 MacBook pro: For people who think they're professionals.
JWooferZ第 339 楼 ·
+1 on that.I don't understand it as well. Are they trying to pander to the lowest common denom with this thin stuff? Macbooks have been the goto for a lot of graphics heavy and memory intensive applications in a portable platform. I had one, lasted me four years and it was solid until the final day when the motherboard finally died after surviving through a water spill.I really wonder who is in charge of these "Executive" decisions within apple this year, first the earphone port now this. I mean, apple were a niche market to begin with, but they'll turn exclusively into a hipster market at this rate with no professionals buying their products for enterprise if they keep pandering to the "WE CAN MAKE THIS AS THIN AS PAPER!!!" train.

No USB type A, no SD card reader, integrated graphics on the 13inch and shit tier discrete GPU's in the 15inch, small battery, 8GB RAM on the 13inch (16GB if replaced), 16GB maximum on the 15inch...what the fuck were they thinking, none of that says professional.Edit: missed another thing, dual core only CPU on the 13inch...

Well, that ain't a courageous way of thinkin'! /s

The superficial consumer fascination with "thin = new" is to blame, here. Years ago, when Apple failed to make the iPhone 4 and 4S thinner than the competition, there were all sorts of articles about how this suggested they were becoming uncompetitive. The phone could've literally had a quantum processor and 256 GB of RAM, and people would've obsessed over how thick it was.I miss the days when Apple basically just told you what you were getting, and when they were usually right for doing so (removal of the floppy drive, supporting FireWire, thunderbolt, etc.). Nowadays, they're constantly playing keep-up with everyone else, making some good innovations but ultimately not setting the trends like they used to. I'd love for them to make an iPhone with twice the thickness and then tell people, "Screw you; we decided a 4-day battery was more important" (figuratively speaking).

To really see a large difference, compare the latest 15 inch macbook pro, to the Lenovo p50 using a skylake CPU also)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8TK4C50652- Intel Xeon Core E3-1505M Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.7 GHz)
- Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, SmartCard Reader, Fingerprint Reader
- 15.6" 4K UHD IPS (3840 x 2160) Anti-Glare, Non-Touch Display
- 256GB Solid State Drive (upgradeable, 1 NVMe, and 2 SATA) - 64GB DDR4 RAM, 2133 MHz (upgradeable)
- NVIDIA Quadro M2000M Graphics with 4GB VRAM (similar to a GTX 960m though it is faster than the GPU on the macbook pro)
- Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC (2x2) 8260, Bluetooth Version 4.1
- 720p HD Webcam with Dual Array Microphone, Pantone Color Sensor
- Backlit, Spill-Resistant Keyboard with Full Number Pad
- I/O Ports: 4x USB 3.0 ports (one Always On), HDMI, mini-DisplayPort, Ethernet (RJ-45), USB Type-C / Thunderbolt 3, Headphone/Mic Combo, 4-in-1 card Reader, Dock Connector
- Mil-Spec Test: MIL-STD-810G military certificationThey make a bunch and still sell current models with every OS from Windows 7 to Windows 10But anyway, it shows just how much someone can get for slightly less money than the 2016 macbook pro.

Eh, ever since Lenovo put malware into the BIOS I can't trust them, no matter how good their laptops are. I'd rather have another brand like Dell.

Theres tons of room for inovation look at the microsoft surface. The problem is mac is stagnating in reguards to design inovation because they are afraid to upturn the apple cart.

sorry for being lazy and not doing research but do you know any smartphones off the top of your head that you'd recommend? (that have a removable battery)
TheMuon第 349 楼 ·
Having a larger screen makes it easier to fit a larger battery for the same thickness. The larger screen would also draw more power but the battery size would more than compensate, especially for standby time.

You say crazy but people are buying them..

The market exists. They don't have to create it, just pander to it. Go into a freshman lecture hall and look at all the white apples staring forwards.

"Trying?"You're kidding right? They succeeded years ago. I was in university for 7 years and the majority of my classes used MacBook pros, probably 60% or more used them in the last few years when Apple was taking over popularity wise.

As long as you can use a build guide you are set. There are many out there where they say if you have these exact parts then set up should be easy and flawless. I am hoping now that they have Polaris chips then there will be drivers for the 470/480. The Nvidia drivers are still stuck in the 900 series.

That is what we've been pushing to do, but security wouldn't approve. Not exactly sure why. Most of us want a local machine since most work remotely and not all of us have great internet access.

Limits per type are on the [Intel datasheet](http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/6th-gen-core-family-mobile-u-y-processor-lines-datasheet-vol-1.html) for the chip family. As you surmised, there 16GB is the maximum supported for LPDDR3. Look at the *LPDDR3 Supported Memory Devices* section, at the bottom of page 21 and top of page 22.

Not sure why anyone is downvoting you, this is clearly true. Some amount of back-light brightness is lost when you let it shoot out the back rather than reflect it forward toward the user. To get the same brightness level you'd need to increase power to the backlight.
