> redesign the motherboard to support DDR4, which draws more powerDo you have a source that DDR4 draws more power per bit that LPDDR3? And wouldn't LPDDR4 be even more power efficient if that was their goal?

I don't think that's correct. I believe it supports more than 16 gigs of ram but they would have to use additional memory chips which would use more power.Source: https://twitter.com/DanFrakes/status/791754757404626944

And to think how excited I was back in middle school when I upgraded from 1 MB to 4 MB so I could finally play the games I wanted!

Chrome is like 100meg per tab. Crazy when you think about it.

I agree, but even if that weren't true I think the "most people" argument wouldn't even be realistic here. It's a MacBook *Pro*, and Apple don't have a great track record in recent years of actually address creative professional needs. But they're still happy to tout that aspect of the market as one of their platform's strengths. It's a significant part of their whole image and they haven't done much to cater to it in a while. Not even having a 32GB option on a "Pro" machine that costs a lot at the bottom end and crazy money at the top, that does just seem a bit ridiculous even for Apple.

I've never understood this... Are programmers just getting lazy and more inefficient? Or is there a good reason for these apps taking up more RAM than they used to?

>I'm talking about about **Ubuntu on an old emachine** here to be specific.
>>No designer who lives on AI, PS, or any respectable pro video editing software will be using Ubuntu anytime soon.Don't think any pro video editing people will use an old emachine even if it had OSX installed.

I don't get that most Linux pushers fail to understand this basic premise. Convince Adobe to go Linux, I'm in. Convince corporate to get off MS Office, I'm in.Then you have presentation software, it's either PowerPoint or Keynote, neither is on Linux.Sure, you can run VM, but what's the point if you are running Windows 90% of the time?

if you are actually needing more than 16gb of ram, then a laptop is a weird choice.

I'm a full time professional photographer, and my desktop has 8GB of RAM. I often have Lightroom, Photoshop, and a handful of Chrome tabs open at the same time and it runs just fine.

>Also virtual machines use as much RAM as an entire OS all on their own.I mean, thats because they're an entire OS...

Photo retouchers in my office have 128GB RAM and sometimes that isn't enough. When you get super high res files with dozens of layers of smart objects, the PSB files often get to 20GB or more. It's ridiculous.

Or music production. I can use 30 GB easily in a session. A lot of my composer buddies were so disappointed by this Apple release.
第 255 楼 ·
Yeah, it's nice to have USB C but at least one USB a would have been nice.

> The Apple Pencil is amazing for writing. I don't use any notebooks anymore. For me computers were a way to get *away* from writing like that.
第 257 楼 ·
I see. But why not a surface? It does more. Price shouldn't be an issue either
第 258 楼 ·
But you are a pro now! Go do pro things. Like netflix pro and surfing pro.
第 259 楼 ·
I mean, pro gamers are a thing, and I'm sure Sony is happy to sell a dream that if you buy the PS4 Pro, you'll magically transform into a top tier COD player with your superior system.

I just love how my Lenovo W series is ~$1000 and benchmarks better than my father's $2500 MBP. The only thing my father's is faster at is storage speed. Also has ports out the ass for everything. They're almost the perfect "workstation" laptop. Dell and Lenovo workstation laptops are on point

The people want thin dammit!I think that's actually part of the reasoning. It seems like people are adverse to carrying around heavy laptops, and they just want thin, portable machines. But then you talk to people like in this thread who just want a computer that does its job really well. It really doesn't make sense for Apple to keep pushing the thin-model with MBP when it limits the capabilities of the machine. But Apple doesn't really seem to be interested in catering to the needs and wants of its professional userbase, but rather the general user, which is really moronic when it comes to the MBP line. The MBP doesn't appeal to the same audience as the MBair or MB,

Because it is getting harder to innovate so they are going for low hanging fruit in order to keep things rolling.

Get a phone with a removable battery and you can sometimes get 7000+mah batteries for them, with a new back to make the phone thicker.
第 265 楼 ·
Check out the Cat S60.
第 266 楼 ·
Hey a moto z play. With our without the Moto battery mod you will get at least 2 days out of it.
第 267 楼 ·
Phones had bigger screens to give people bigger screens. Else they would have made them thicker rather than giving a larger screen that consumes more battery.
第 268 楼 ·
Exactly. They are everything the average person needs and it is crazy that apple is trying to create a market for 2000 dollar chromebooks.
第 269 楼 ·
exactly. unix under the hood.

The Surface Book uses a ULV dual core chip. I think they're limited by Intel to a maximum of 16GB. The Macbook Pro 15" uses a i7-6700HQ quad core chip that does not have the chipset on board, that one supports up to 64GB of DDR4.
