You should consider not being a "fanboy" anymore, because Apple is simply not the company for you if you want choice.
第 122 楼 ·
Then you don't want apple products, which have always been locked down to only a small number of configurations and very hard or impossible to upgrade.

Been a fan of Apple myself, but they dissapoint greatly this year. They have lost their senses. They think they can churn out worse products for more money now that they have built their brand for a decade. (Cue "hur dur like they've done all along, Apple sheep")The mini jack had to go at some point, but they went about removing it completely the wrong way. I was planning on buying the iPhone 7 actually, but changed my mind when it looked like the leaked mockups where real. Now they launch a MacBook Pro with ports that not enough devices use yet, while removing the ports that most consumers still use. And as a last fuck you they didn't add a lightning port so their most loyal customers can't use their new headphones on it.I guess we will see how many where using Apple products for their quality and simplicity as time passes, and not for the brand itself. It's a shame because I hate Windows. OSX is great. I guess it's time to try Linux. I could always buy an older Mac or iPhone as well. Save some cash too.

The surface book also tops out at 16GB.

Is that legit? That's hilarious.

So, trade in to something with less non upgradeable RAM?
第 128 楼 ·
Depends on what you want to do with it. The Pro line is considered something for intensive work and usually packs a fair amount of horse power. The last gen Mac Book Pro had at least 16GB of RAM, so you'd expect the newer version to support more. The average consumer wouldn't need more, but then the average consumer may want to stick with a non "pro" computer, especially given its price. Perhaps Apple has figured out their core market doesn't need more, who knows.

> is 16gb of ram not muchdepends, certain application just eat ram, for example loading in really big sampled instruments, like an orchestral section with all the articulations.

It's not mac/not mac, but a lot of people using the pro line is using it instead of a desktop. For me that is running several virtual machines as well as tool/applications which can use 3-4GB *each*. I've been waiting to upgrade from 16GB to 32GB for years because 16GB is beginning to limit me. Now it looks like I'll have to change platform, which I really don't want to.

For a workstation that's the minimum I would consider, given that the Macbook Pro is marketed towards media creation users and it costs quite a lot of money I would expect it to at least have the specs to actually handle media creation.

It's alright for right now but you don't buy a $2k computer so that it's obsolete in 2-3 yrs.
第 133 楼 ·
it's a lot, people are just being stupid.
第 134 楼 ·
It goes a long way for creative suite type applications, video editing, etc. And the people who use those applications are pretty much the only tech professionals who can both justify and operate with a mac.
第 135 楼 ·
16 GB sounds like a lot until you are running 3 VMs, a full blown IDE and a lot of browser tabs open.
第 136 楼 ·
It's not that 16GB isn't a lot - it's that this is the maximum Apple is willing to sell on a computer branded "Pro" for over $2000

I'm a sucker for Macbooks and really love the trackpad and overall build quality. I'm stuck with my 2009 Pro and probably need to upgrade soon. Granted, it still runs well because I put in an SSD, more ram and a new battery. But one day, it will die.But fuck I'm not spending 1700€ on the base model MBpro. Ridiculous. When I bought mine the base model 13" was 1150€. And so many regressions...no usbA, no magsafe.Like someone here wrote: Apple 2016: one step forward, two steps back.

I've owned different macbooks for 8 years. After this announcement I decided to buy a dell xps instead. Cheaper and better everything. Ill miss osx though.

Yeah seriously, there's no way I'll be able to run multiple instances of guitar rig and kontakt or even have two sessions open at once on this thing but I guess that doesn't matter when I can't plug in a midi controller, an interface or even a USB microphone
第 140 楼 ·
there's no lightning dongle. Those are USB-C ports.
第 141 楼 ·
... Until the phones break and they lose suppot. Then you'll shit the bed
第 142 楼 ·
The iPhone SE is really good

Or any promoter ever.
第 145 楼 ·
They should release a Mac Pro Fit as another slap in the face to its customers.
第 146 楼 ·
I believe the chipset does, but not if you use the lower power consumption LPDDR3.So to support 32GB of memory would have pushed them to DDR4, and higher power consumption on all the laptops.

in 1994, my dad came home with a AST Bravo PC 486-DX 66 Mhz with 8 MB ram and a hard drive of 512 MB with a double-speed CD-ROM, and a HP deskjet C O L O R printer!!I was floored!I mean, we used to have a IMB / PC 2:86 with 30 MB hard drive, which meant I could only use 10 MB to games. Sure, I could get KQ 1,2 and 3 in there, Prince of Persia and even Shooting Gallery and Quest for Glory 1, but I had to delete everything just to be able to play [Monkey Island 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BjpCc9Wcb8)Now we had 512 MB! I didn't even know what to do - I started with copying everything from my disks. I made a SIERRA-folder and put Kings Quest 1-3, Hero's quest 1-2, Police Quest 1-2, Space Quest 1-3 and Gold Rush in there. Having a SIERRA folder full of all the great adventure games had been such a long lasting dream. We could also play DOOM on this computer as well as alllll the classic Lucas Arts games such as [Day of the tentacle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vJioAZ1oIY), [Sam N Max hit the road](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yWnnk9fyJE) and Rebel Assult (even though Rebel Assult always crashed, but it didn't matter because it was a pretty shitty game, I just poped it in now and then to show my friends the [intro with the original Star Wars music and that tiny cinematography piece where Luke is watching the moon and raising his hand to see better](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wYe1piKSDY).Also, we used Corel Draw (came with a book three times the size of the bible) full of color cliparts. Then we printed stuff like a big gold bar and wrote "Gold is not all that matters" and a pirate ship where we wrote "Yaaaaar!".

I have two devices sitting on my table that have 256MB RAM. Of course, neither of them is a laptop.
第 149 楼 ·
I paid $300 to upgrade from 4gb to 8gb in my college laptop. It's still going .

Sad but true.
