Yup. I feel like I could do graphic or UX design on an Air, but video would annoy me.

Also the benefits of Kaby over Sky Lake are not really there in mobile. They are both 14nm, support ddr4, nvme, and have similar performance. Skylake is an excellent mobile processor and Kaby is a few percent better.

Sure, but Dell is already shipping Kaby Lake XPS 13s.. for half the price.

Same, I've long been covering the apple logo with a sticker, and I don't like stickering my things.

Until a company releases a Unix/Linux based laptop that can also run Microsoft Office, has good specs, and isn't huge.Edit: VMs don't count. If I wanted windows, I'd use windows.

Exactly. I've be using Macs for 10 years professionally, but next year I'm gonna build a hackintosh.
TheUsher第 281 楼 ·
Except shit like iMessage and FaceTime breaks all the time on mackintosh least I checked. I really considered doing one but not when that's a recurring problem.
ssidnohackersallowed第 282 楼 ·
Wouldn't you save a grip of cash just setting up a hypervisor with a lot of RAM? Instead of hosting the VMs locally?

If your engineers are regularly working in a place without access to a power outlet, then they are doing it wrong. There's a simple fix for it, and most rooms have 3-4 of them. Plug the damn thing in. If they have no power outlets, get a usable workspace.

I'm a traveling consultant and I do penetration testing. I have VMs from win 95 to windows 10 and several Linux boxes each with their own specialized purpose. I use multiple VMs to test hacks or compile different malwares before launching at clients.

We agree on that point, both in Macs and iPhones.

Interestingly, LPDDR4 is out now (Wikipedia says the standard was released [in 2014](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_DDR#LPDDR4), and Samsung's web site lists [a variety of LPDDR4 chips](http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/products/dram/mobile-dram/)), but it doesn't appear the MacBook Pro uses it.But anyway, it all makes sense because [wikipedia says](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook_Pro#Fourth_generation_technical_specifications) the processor in the 15-inch is either the Intel Core i7 Skylake [6700HQ](http://ark.intel.com/products/88967/Intel-Core-i7-6700HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz), [6820HQ](http://ark.intel.com/products/88970/Intel-Core-i7-6820HQ-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz), or [6920HQ](http://ark.intel.com/products/88972/Intel-Core-i7-6920HQ-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz), and all three of their specs pages say they support LPDDR3.More to the point here, the processors' specs page also say that the **"Max Memory Size" is 64GB but "dependent on memory type"**. I couldn't find any confirmation of what the limits are per type, but it sure seems like once they chose LPDDR3, the 16GB limit was forced by Intel's design. In which case, I agree that somebody screwed up bad at understanding product segments, but it might be Intel. The 6920HQ goes for $568. Who wants a $568 mobile processor that is limited to 16GB in the most logical configuration for mobile? It seems like Samsung has 32 gigabit chips [available in both LPDDR3 and LPDDR4](http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/products/dram/mobile-dram/), so it's not a matter of Intel's decision to go with LPDDR3, it's just a limitation they placed on the size of the memory. Unless it's something inherent to LPDDR3.

A lot of misinformed speculation drifting to the top with hundreds of upvotes, and here you are, with the real answer, sitting at 4 upvotes./r/technology in a nutshell.

*They like standardizing so they can create a seamless ecosystem for all their products.*Obviously, which is why I can plug my iPhone 7's earbuds into my new Macbook Pro and plug in the USB-Lightning cable that came with it into the new Macbook Pro, too.
Nosiege第 293 楼 ·
> They like standardizing so they can create a seamless ecosystemHow does that explain USB-c + Lightning between MBP and iPhone7?

Have you upgraded the RAM and/or HDD in your laptop?

You, me and everyone else who isn't a raving, jabbering fanboy. I miss the Apple we all know and loved. The new products are elitist, margin-padding techtoys compared to just a few years ago.
